Check out my Letterboxd to keep up with my movie watching and read more of my reviews.
- Mad Max (1979) : Thought it was fascist garbage. I'm sorry. It's literally about a hero cop fighting to "maintain order" against an oncoming wave of bisexual rapists (note: fighting rapists is good, my issue is with the movie portraying rape as an issue that specifically comes from minorities and 'societal degeneracy') coming to tear apart the nuclear family and destroy society. After watching it I was so annoyed that I dug around on the internet until I found someone who agreed with me (a blog post by a gay dude) so I could experience the relief of knowing that someone else sees what I see. In the process I also found conservative blog which saw these same themes but agreed with them, which made me want to bleed from my eyes.

- Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure (1977) : This is really weird...
- The Rescuers (1977)
- Wizards (1977) : Has some artistic choices that undermine its themes but I do think “we have to stop fascism with the powers of ‘cutting the crap’ and ‘incredible violence’” is a good message.

- Despicible Me 2 (2013)
- Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart (2013) : I can't belive my parents let me watch this as a kid. It's frankly disturbing and it has what I can only describe as "a sex scene involving an organ that would not usually be used for sex." It's very weird and metaphorical and French and a deeply horny coming-of-age story about being disabled and wanting to FUCK. Also there's a time skip in there and you can feel that it's there but it's conveyed very vaguely.
- Epic (2013)
- Turbo (2013)
- The Wind Rises (2013)
- The Book of Life (2014)

- The Front Room (2024) : I appreciate the usage of Protestantism for horror. The usage of the disability and the nudity of an elderly woman for horror is less unique and less appreciated.

- Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995-1996) : I couldn't finish it. I guess I will eventually. Something about it provokes a rage in me so visceral and all-consuming that it's almost unbearable. I guess it's because there's something about this show that feels hypocritical, or lacking in understanding. My reaction to it is so strong that's it's hard for me to understand or put it into words. I feel like this show is a litmus test for understanding media and I failed it because all I got out of it was inarticulate rage and violent urges. I want every single adult character in this show, all child torturers, to be fed into into woodchippers feet first. I wish I could crawl through the screen and do it myself. This show makes me want to know what it feels like to fully annihilate another human being. You could drag me into a van and make me watch the whole thing in one sitting, and then let me out to go forth and kill. And I'd do it! The art is gorgeous but I don't think I'll be finishing it anytime soon.

- Last Days At Hot Slit: The Radical Feminism of Andrea Dworkin edited by Johanna Fateman and Amy Scholder : Absolutely grueling. Incredibly difficult. I have my criticisms of Dworkin, but she has some deeply insightful writing. Most disturbing is a part near the end, near her death, facing the new reality of a world with date-rape drugs. Her writing on that, on the absolute necrophilia of men's sexual objectification of and sexual violence against women, will haunt me. Would recommend this one, to ponder on the flaws and insights of a controversial writer. But only if you have a strong stomach.
- Pro-Life Feminism: Different Voices edited by Gail-Grenier Sweet : Read it when I was younger. This is a bit of a weird book. Its main argument is that abortion allows men to use women as sex objects without consequences, referencing the classic "paying for the abortion to avoid a sex scandal" scenario. It also uses the classic "abortion traumatizes women" argument, invoking stories of women haunted by the children they aborted. Unlike your standard conservatives, they also argue for government welfare to pay for all these kids. That said, the strangest and most revealing essay is the one on suicide, arguing that "the mind has no right to kill the body" because the body's reflexes may thwart a suicide attempt. In this way, the book completely rejects bodily autonomy as a concept. Rather than treating body as a vessel of one's consciousness or as simply one's self, which experiences and expresses conciousness through its physical processes, they argue, in effect, that you are required to be a caretaker of your body (which is seperate and superior to "you"), helping it to fulfill it's "natural purpose". The body wants to live, wants to have children, wants to not have an abortion, because these things are natural and spiritually right. Your responsibility is to comply with these biological imperatives. Usually conservatives argue on the basis that abortion is murder and against the "clump of cells" argument, ignoring the bodily autonomy discussion entirely. It's fascinating to see someone argue against abortion by trying to argue against bodily autonomy as a concept. I wonder what these women would think about trans people. I think I already know.
- The Beauty Myth: How Images of Beauty Are Used Against Women by Naomi Wolf : A mixture of very valid criticisms of a very big industry and some deeply weird arguements. She's right that the beauty industry is bad, but I can see how she ended up becoming a conspiracy theorist.

"True believer" meaning that it's written by people within the belief system from the perspective of being in it as opposed to commenting on it from the outside. Mostly gonna be crank shit because that's what I'm into learning about.
- American Monsters: A History of Monster Lore, Legends, and Sightings in America by Linda S. Godfrey : A fascinating look into the world of cryptozoology, but full of hippie-style anti-indigenous racism (which is honestly just a huge part of cryptozoology).
